Steady as she goes exercise to improve balance
A study of women aged 65+ showed measurable improvements in balance and walking speed after a nine-week yoga program. Participants attended yoga sessions twice a week. After the program, the women felt more confident in their ability to balance while standing and walking.
They walked faster, used longer strides, and were able to balance on one leg for a longer period. The researcher noted that both strength and flexibility are important for helping people avoid falls, a leading cause of disability among older people, especially women.
